Why We Eat Mindfully

Mindful eating is an effective way to incorporate mindfulness into one of the most fundamental activities of our existence.

Mindful eating nourishes our bodies and minds.

Mindful eating helps us achieve a healthier weight and appreciate the relationship between the food on our table, our health and the health of the planet.

Today’s tips for mindful eating:

  • Prepare your breakfast or pack your lunch the night before. This will allow you time to prepare thoughtful meals for the next day and ensure that you get something healthy to eat in the morning and afternoon, despite a busy schedule.
  • Take it slow and chew your food well. Speed eating leads to overeating.
  • Make sure you have a good appetite for breakfast. Snacking late at night may lead to a lack of appetite in the morning. Try and limit your food intake late at night so you can begin your day with a healthy breakfast.

"When I am eating I remind myself that I should only eat what nourishes me and prevents illness. What I eat can make me healthy or make me sick. When I go shopping, when I cook, and when I eat, I shall give rise to mindfulness and not bring into my body the kind of food which makes me heavy and unwell.”
